WILL TEACHERS HAVE MORE TO GRADE NOW?
This should not be the case. Allow the students to be accountable for their own work. Once they finish the group work, they must show their work to another person in their group, explain it and then show the other students the correct way to do the work. Allow them to teach each other as a way for review.
WILL TEACHERS HAVE MORE TO PLAN?
We'd like to think that at first they might spend a little extra time on planning. Just like anything else, you need to get use to the process. But in the end, if the teacher spends extra time at the beginning of the week in planning, they will not need to worry about any planning on the back end because it will already be done.
WHERE IS THE GUIDED MATH BOOK?
From what we can tell, there are no Guided Math books yet. This is a new strategy and nothing has been published yet. If you are up for the challenge, we can write a book together!
HOW DOES DIFFERENTIATION HAPPEN?
After the pretest on day 1, you will grade those tests and then put the students into ability leveled groups based on the standard. The neat thing here is your groups could change weekly based on the needs of the student. For the child who is strong with number computation, they may be weak with geometric shapes. Here we TRULY hit the academic needs of the child.
I recently came across a resource book on Guided Math. I have just started reading it, and it's great! It is a wonderful support resource to what you have here on this blog. Here is a link to the website where you can purchase the book: http://estore.seppub.com/estore/product/50534 There are a lot of other great resources there, as well.

I would like to commend your work on this excellent site! What a wonderful resource for teachers as they implement Guided Math. I began using Guided Math about eight years ago. There were no resources available at all. Now, a resource for Guided Math is finally available. My book Guided Math: A Framework for Mathematics Instructional was released last spring. It is published by Shell Education. Thank you for all you are doing to support teachers.
