January - A New Year
It's so refreshing to begin a new year, and everyone is off to a great start working hard and completing all homework.
Speaking of exciting things, we started cursive last week, and the students love it! We'll be learning different letters every week. So far they have been introduced to e, i, l, t, u, w. Students are encouraged to practice these letters at home and in their free time. I have paper available for them to take and use.
We are studying fractions and decimals right now in math. Cooking and following recipes are great ways to help your child learn and use fractions. Just think of the fun you can have together! Our unit test will be near the end of January, and it will cover chapters 20 and 21. Then we will start linear measurement.
I think the students enjoyed the field trip to Fernbank as much as I did! We learned so much about the different regions in Georgia and all the wild things that live there. This will be our focus in science for the next few weeks.
Persuasive writing is what we'll be working on this nine weeks. Students have already written one piece in their writing journal. Ask your child about it.
I want to thank each and every one of you for the fantastic holiday and birthday gift. I feel so lucky to have such wonderful students and parents.
Please remember to read your child's agenda every night. That's the best way to keep up to date.
