May Memories - continued

The children have been working hard on their living museum report.  Their presentations will be on May 20, 2009, in the media center.  Our time is from 1:15 - 2:00 PM.  We will be the only class in there at that time.  Please plan on coming.

Also, please send in a self-addressed envelope with two stamps on it.  They must be Forever stamps or the new ones that come out May 11th for 44 cents each.  I'll need them to mail home your child's report card and various other papers.

It's been a great year.  The students' photo albums will always be a reminder of all the fun we had in third grade.

E-mail me if you have any questions or concerns.

See you Wednesday!

May Memories

The year is almost over, and I have so many wonderful memories of  my fabulous class.  We have worked very hard, and we have been like a family.  The children get along so well, and they are always willing to help a classmate.  This makes me proud to be their teacher.

Remember, this Wednesday is our Fun Run.  Please come out and support our team, Stone's Storms!  The time will be written in your child's agenda.

April - CRCT Time

I hope everyone has had a restful and fun spring break.  When the students return to school, we have only one week until the CRCT.  We have worked hard this year, and I'm sure they will all do well as long as they read carefully.

Just a reminder: During the CRCT, the no visitor policy is in effect.  This means that noone will be allowed past the front office during the time that we are testing.

Please continue to have your child study the multiplcation and division facts.  The mastery of these is essential for this last quarter in math.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call or e-mail me.

March Madness

March Madness is always used when referring to basketball, because every team is frantic about getting into the NCAA tournament.  Well, we're not frantic, but we have a lot to do before the CRCT.

The class has been very busy reading about our historic figures.  We have studied Paul Revere, Frederick Douglass, and Susan B. Anthony so far.  They have a quiz on these three Thursday, March 12, 2009.  Mary McLeod Bethune, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Eleanor Roosevelt, Thurgood Marshall, Lyndon B. Johnson, and Cesar Chavez are the people we still need to study before the CRCT. I'm sure that some of the information will have to be done at home.  Students did a great job on the extra credit projects for Susan B. Anthony.  I was very impressed with the hard work that they put into their project.

In science, we are going to begin learning about magnets and energy.  That's why we have the two High Touch High Tech field trips planned for March and April.  Thank you to all of the parents that have returned the permission slips and paid for both.  Please return the permission slips and money soon if you haven't already paid.

Our final test in math for this quarter will be next week.  A study test will be coming home this week.  Students still need to know their multiplication and division facts.

Our writing focus for this quarter will be narrative writing.  We just finished writing our persuasive papers to Mrs. Huff about whether or not students should walk to school.

If you have any concerns, please e-mail me at jacque.stone@cobbk12.org.

Enjoy this great weather.

February Fun

I really enjoyed meeting with everyone during Conference Week. If you have any further questions, be sure to e-mail me at jacque.stone@cobbk12.org.

Yesterday I attached a flyer to each child's agenda.  Please try to attend the Thinking Map Training on February 12th at 6:00 PM.  Also our Spaghetti Dinner is February 20th at 6:00 PM.  About 15 other teachers and I will be involved in a spelling bee.  Come join the fun!

Even though we are starting measurement in math, we will still have multiplication and division tests.  We will also continue working with fractions and decimals.

Frederick Douglass is the person we are now studying in social studies.  Your child will be bringing home an assignment for extra credit which will be due on Friday, February 13th.

We are still working on Georgia habitats. The test will be the end of next week.  They will know what they need to study.

We are in need of gifts for our Treasure Box. Some people call it a gift gallery.  I need over 115 gifts to let the children use all of their awards.  I do have quite a few gifts, but not enough for this time.  Anything would be greatly appreciated.  Please send them in by next Wednesday.  Thanks for your help.

Please check your child's agenda and homework folder each and every day.  That's the best way to know what we are studying and when assignments are due.

January - A New Year

It's so refreshing to begin a new year, and everyone is off to a great start working hard and completing all homework.

Speaking of exciting things, we started cursive last week, and the students love it!  We'll be learning different letters every week.  So far they have been introduced to  e, i, l, t, u, w.  Students are encouraged to practice these letters at home and in their free time. I have paper available for them to take and use.

We are studying fractions and decimals right now in math. Cooking and following recipes are great ways to help your child learn and use fractions.  Just think of the fun you can have together!  Our unit test will be near the end of January, and it will cover chapters 20 and 21. Then we will start linear measurement.

I think the students enjoyed the field trip to Fernbank as much as I did!  We learned so much about the different regions in Georgia and all the wild things that live there. This will be our focus in science for the next few weeks.

Persuasive writing is what we'll be working on this nine weeks. Students have already written one piece in their writing journal.  Ask your child about it.

I want to thank each and every one of you for the fantastic holiday and birthday gift. I feel so lucky to have such wonderful students and parents.

Please remember to read your child's agenda every night.  That's the best way to keep up to date.

Any questions or concerns, please e-mail me at jacque.stone@cobbk12.org

By the way, have your child tell me that you read this blog.  The password is Italy!

Happy New Year!

December News

We only have eight more days until the school year is half over.  I'm so glad that the students are still working very hard, because we have much to do.

We will be going on a field trip to Fernbank on January 9th.  The permission slips will be coming home very soon.

Remember to check your child's agenda every night.  That is the best way to keep track of tests and assignments.

I hope everyone has a great two weeks off.

Parent Survey for Standards-Based Report Cards

The Cobb County School District encourages parents to participate in the online fall survey for the new standards-based report cards.  As part of the ongoing development process, a survey link has been posted to the Cobb District website to gather input on the recently distributed K, 1, and 2 report cards.  Please visit www.cobbk12.org to respond.  The survey will be open until Dec. 1, 2008.

November News

Thanksgiving Day is almost here, and I have so much for which I am thankful.  I am thankful for such a wonderful class that works so hard each and every day.  We have come a long way since the first week of school.  I am also thankful that they are learning their multiplication and division facts because this is the most important math skill that all the fourth grade teachers want from the third grade students.  I hope that each and every one of you has a great Thanksgiving Vacation.

Remember to read your child's agenda each and every day.  The dates for all tests and assignments are always written down in the agenda.

Happy Thanksgiving!
