I look forward to seeing all of you at Curriculum Night this Thursday at 6:00.
We are well on our way in First Grade and I am so EXCITED! We will spend a lot of time this first week learning rules and routines. In the next few weeks, I am conducting a number of beginning of the year assessments to help me better understand your child's learning needs, reading ranges, and reading levels. These will be sent home within the next couple of weeks. We will be starting The Daily 5 next week!
Here is what we're working on this month!
Language Arts: review of Kindergarten skills, beginning, ending and vowel sounds, rhyming words, recognizing high frequency words, (color words, number words, etc.)
Math: recognizing number words, counting sets to 30, ordering numbers, ordinal numbers, (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.) even and odd numbers, graphing, tallying and Calendar math (days of the week, months of the year, etc.)
Social Studies: Our global location, beginning maps
Science: weather (different types and their correlation with different seasons)
Homework
Homework will come home on Monday, August 22 and is due back on August 31. Homework will be explained in more detail at Curriculum Night!
Reminders
Be sure to check your child's Take Home folder every night!! This is where I will place homework, important announcements, and child's work! Be sure to clean out the right side daily and sign and return anything that may need to be returned on the left side. Also, be sure to look at the behavior chart, initial it, and encourage great 1st grade behavior!!
READ READ READ! It is important that you are reading with your child (this includes you reading to them) each night!
If there is a change in your child's dismissal routine, send me a note in his/her folder letting me know about the change.
Lunch is from 10:54 - 11:24.
We are "squaded" or broken into groups for Specials. Your child needs to wear sneakers on his or her PE days!
