THANK YOU so much for making my birthday such a special day! The sweet gifts and wishes made it a perfect birthday! As I look at the calendar, organizing the last few weeks I am SHOCKED that it is May already! One of the mystery readers was asking if I was ready for summer and I hadn’t really thought about it until then! I am sad that this year is coming to an end so fast! I have truly enjoyed teaching your children! They have all learned so much!
We recently read, Have You Filled A Bucket Todayby Carol McCloud. We have done a lot of talking about being “good people”. I am proud to say that I have a class full of “bucket fillers.” (Ask your child, they will tell you what it means!)
THIS MONTH
Reading/Language Arts- We have been working really hard on asking meaningful questions before, during, and after reading. We have discovered that the answers to our questions are not always in the story; sometimes you have to infer or use an outside source to find the answer. We have also learned that good readers synthesize what they are reading, meaning that their thoughts and ideas change as they read the book. We are going to continue digging deeper into our books and really thinking about what we are reading!
Writing-We are currently working on writing our very own books! You are going to love the stories that they are writing! They are so cute! We have talked a lot about writing a “real” book and how the author has to plan the story and make it interesting for readers.
Math-We will be practicing double digit addition and subtraction without regrouping (although we have talked about regrouping just a tad). We will also be reviewing money, time, and place value.
Science-We will finish up our animal units!
Social Studies-We will be learning about producers and consumers and describe how people can be both producers and consumers. We will also continue our folktales unit including; Johnny Appleseed, Davy Crockett, Paul Bunyan, and Annie Oakley.
