- Thank you all so very much for the wonderful treats and school supplies I received this week! I feel very appreciated! Please know that I appreciate all of you and all you do to prepare your child to be successful in school. You all make my job so much easier!
- I'm encouraging the Wildcats to read, read, read over Winter Break. Please check your child's progress toward their AR goal by looking inside their yellow folder. Unless they're within a few points of their goal, they need to spend time every day reading AR books. I will allow extra time for quiz taking after the break.
- I have posted some "Teacher Created Tests" in the CRCT practice online site. Information was sent home earlier with directions for logging in. Please let me know if you need another copy of directions. There are 2 vocabulary and 2 reading comprehension your child may take for practice in addition to the state practice tests.
- Spring Field trip forms are due tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 18th.
- HAVE A GREAT WINTER BREAK!
- We will have a busy two weeks to close out February!
- Reading: We are focusing on nonfiction text features (such as diagrams, glossary, index, etc.) and how we use them to better understand nonfiction text.
- Grammar Skills: We are focusing on verbs; action verbs, helping verbs, present and past tense.
- Writing Workshop: The children are researching Georgia animals and working on prewriting maps and drafts of their reports. We will be publishing them on the computer.
- Math: Our mini-unit for these two weeks is linear measurement. We will work on measuring to the closest 1/4 in. and cm. We will also cover the units used in both customary and metric systems, and comparing units within the same system (for example; 1 ft. = 12 in.). See how many objects your child can find to measure at home with rulers and tape measures!
- Theme/Social Studies: We will be studying the lives of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt and how they each contributed to our nation.
- We will have a valentine exchange on Monday, Feb. 14th at the end of the day. The children will decorate bags in class. I will send home a valentine list this week.
- We have started Junior Achievement. Thank you, Mrs. Plugge, for volunteering to be our JA parent. Thank you, Mrs. Jones, for helping with this week's lesson. Ask your child each Friday what they have learned that week in Junior Achievement. Lessons cover our community, government services, and businesses within the community, such as banks.
- Please look for a field trip letter going home this week. We are planning three programs for this spring; two here at school and one at the Wright Environmental Center. We are collecting for these programs early as we have to send deposits for the in-house programs.
- Have a great Winter Break!
