*I would like to see all students make their Accelerated Reader goal this quarter. If your child's goal is 10 points, they should have 4 points by this point. Please check the inside of their yellow folder each Friday to see how your child is progressing.
*We are beginning cursive writing instruction and the students are very excited! Please give your child opportunities to practice reading your cursive handwriting. Once they can read it easily, it makes remembering the strokes that much easier. We also talked about slanting the paper, sitting tall with feet on floor, and holding paper with the hand they're not writing with. Most important of all, I'm asking all of them to try to hold their pencils correctly (with middle finger on bottom of pencil, not on top). Bad habits are difficult to change, and legibiltiy can be achieved even if they hold pencil "incorrectly", but holding it correctly will enable them to write much faster in the long run. Using pencil grippers helps them with their grip. If you can send in a few for your child to use, that would be great. I will send home a copy of the cursive letter formation we use this week. We will be taking it slowly, so please don't encourage your child to attempt to write in cursive at this point; just being able to read cursive is a good starting point. I will send home their practice papers so that you can see which strokes and letters we've practiced in class.
*Reminder: Science quiz on habitats and adaptations this Wednesday. Hopefully you were able to open the Jeopardy game I emailed you. (I will try to also post it on BLOG, but in past have had trouble posting Powerpoints.)
*We will have a quiz on unit 5 vocabulary this Friday. Students will bring home their vocabulary journals and study guide sheets on Wednesday.
