May FUN!!!!

Welcome to May!  You can tell that it is the end of the year.  The students are ready for summer!  May is packed full of fun and exciting times!  The class has been so interested in ocean animals that we are going to do a week of ocean study with Mrs Cushman's and Mrs Clatterbaugh's class.  We are going to create our own ocean and do several exciting activities that are ocean themed!  If anyone has baby food jars, we need 15 please!

May 6th will be our Boosterathon Fun Run.  By now, I am sure you have heard all the excitment!  Your child brought home a CD and pledge form.  The money we raise for Mtn View will go towards technology and the foundation.  Also, our class will get 10% of what we raise!  Parents are welcome to come out on the 6th and cheer us on!  We will be walking from 9:45-11:00.   :)

May 7th is our final field trip to the zoo.  All parents are welcome to come!  We will only have room on the bus for a handful of parents, but feel free to carpool and join us!  It is a FUN day!

May 11th - Animal projects are due!!  I can't wait to see all the creative presentations!  We will be doing a first grade museum and walk around to each room and view the animal projects that were created in every classroom!!!  FUN!

May 13th will be the K-2 field day.  Be watching your child's take home folder for more information.  Please let me know if you would like to volunteer to help with the stations

May 21st is our end of the year party.  More information will be coming home on that as well. 

May 22nd is the last day of school!  Thank you everyone for a fantastic year!

April April April!

What an exciting time!  April is such a busy month.  We are fast approaching Spring Break and the CRCT.  I sent home a CRCT pack for April homework.  I do not need this pack back.  It is packed full of sample questions for the CRCT.  Please make sure that you complete some from each section:  reading, language arts and math.  Below are important dates to remember for April.

Week of April 6th - Spring Break!  Enjoy and Relax!

April 21st-30th - CRCT testing, please be advised that visitors to the school are not allowed in during the testing period.  Visitors will be let in after all grade levels have completed the test for the day.  Our lunch schedule will change as well and as soon as I have it I will send home a copy.

I want to thank all the moms that have helped during centers and doing odd things around the room.  From this point on we will not be having center moms come in.  You have all been fantastic!

Welcome to March!

Welcome back!  March already!  This year has just flown by!  There is so much going on in the classroom.  We have been moving so fast!  The 3rd nine weeks ends this month and the the last nine weeks begins! 

We have been working hard on our CRCT practice in the classroom.  The students have been assigned several tests on the online CRCT practice website as well. 

The 4th nine weeks we are going to be learning some fantastic new things:

Math - review all we have been learning and learning about 2 digit addition and subtraction without carrying over, fractions, measurement in non-standard units and time to the quarter hour.

Science is all about animals and plants!  Get ready for animal project to come home!

Welcome to February! 

Thank you so much for coming in for conferences.  It was such a pleasure to be able to sit down and discuss your child's progress.  It so nice to have all the support that you have given the class all year long.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me here at the school by phone or email.  Please be reminded that the GPS Standards are available on PICASSO on the cobb county website and also a hard copy is in our room.  www.cobk12.org

The 3rd nine weeks has started off well!  The students have grown so much since the beginning of the year.  We are working hard on publishing our book!  More information will come home as our publish date gets closer, it is in March.  (seems far away, but it is Feb already!!!)

For Valentines Day - Please decorate a showbox at home to receive all your Valentines.  Bring in on Valentines Day

Welcome to Winter

We have made it to the half way mark!  I hope that everyone had a wonderful and relaxing break.  Welcome back to the last half of the year. 

This 9 weeks we will be covering lights and shadows and then move on to plants in science working our way up to animals.

In Social Studies we will be covering Harriet Tubman, Teddy Roosevelt and George Washington Carver

In math we will continue to work on money and start learning about fractions and time.  We will expand our knowledge of addition and subtraction up to 18.

We are continuing to expand our reading comprehension and fluency and will be learning about how to expand our writing and using correct commas in a series and proper nouns.

Monday January 26-30 is conference week - please look for your scheduled time sheet and send back to me as soon as possible.

I would like to thank all my parents for such wonderful support and help within the classroom.  You have done such a wonderful job helping out and planning our gatherings!  You all are so wonderful!

December Already???

Wow!  I am amazed that it is almost December already!  The students have certainly been working very hard and I have such an amazing class this year!  Please remember that this 9 weeks we are on a 6 day rotation schedule with specials so please be sure to check the calendar in your child's take home folder for the days we have PE so he/she can wear/bring sneakers. 

We are working hard to expand our math in addition and subtraction.  We are also working with different shapes and the attributes they have,  We have added 100 to our place value challenges and doing fair trade with money! 

We are currently learning about Thomas Jefferson and comparing life in the past to life in the present.

All the instruments looked great and sounded great!  We had a little concert in the class and the students really showed their creativity with the project.  Next up is Light and shadows!!!

I will be sending information home after the November break regarding our Winter Celebration and when we will be making gingerbread houses. 

Thank you so much to all the help I have gotten in the classroom!  The students love it so much when the parents come in!
