We have had a fabulous first couple of days in first grade! It has been wonderful getting to know each student. We have been busy learning classroom routines, exploring the different areas of our classroom, and getting to know each other. Beginning next week, I will be giving a number of beginning of the year assessments to help me better understand each child and their learning needs. Your child's beginning of the year reading ranges will be sent home next week. I know this is going to be a fantastic year!
THIS MONTH
Language Arts-Review of kindergarten skills, beginning and ending vowel sounds, rhyming words, sight words.
Math-Counting sets to 30, even and odd numbers, graphing, tallying, and calendar days of the week/months of the year.
Social Studies- Our global location, maps
Science-Weather and seasons
HOMEWORK
Homework will start the week of Monday August 22. We will be using a homework notebook this year. Homework will be discussed at curriculum night.
REMINDERS
Be sure to check your child's Take Home folder every night!! This is where I will place homework, important announcements, and child's work! Be sure to clean out the right side daily and sign and return anything that may need to be returned on the left side. Also, be sure to look at the behavior chart, initial it, and encourage great 1st grade behavior!!

If there is a change in your child's dismissal routine, send me a note in his/her folder letting me know about the change.
Lunch is from 10:51-11:21
We are "squaded" or broken into groups for Specials. Your child needs to wear sneakers on his or her PE days!
