I can hardly believe that we only have three weeks left of school this year! The students have all grown and learned so much and I am so proud of them. I will miss each of them, but I know they are prepared and ready for second grade. We have been sharing our animal projects in class this week, and I am so impressed with each student's presentation. We are learning lots of new interesting facts about all kinds of animals!
THIS MONTH
Reading/Language Arts- We will continue our authors studies and will be focusing on Kevin Henkes and Leo Lionni. We have already studied Eric Carle and Jan Brett and the students have had fun creating art work in the same style of each author. We will also focus on questioning. We will focus on asking questions before reading, during reading, and after reading. Asking questions while reading helps us make sense of text and gain a deeper understanding of what we are reading.
Writing-We will continue our unit on persuasive writing and learn how to use compound sentences in our writing.
Math-We will be practicing double digit addition and subtraction without regrouping. We will also be reviewing money, time, and place value.
Science-We will finish up our unit on animals.
Social Studies-We will be talking about producers and consumers and describe how people can be both producers and consumers. We will also study folktales including Johnny Appleseed, Davy Crockett, Paul Bunyan, and Annie Oakley.
