What fabulous researchers we have in first grade. The animal projects were very informative. The children enjoyed sharing the important facts about the animal they chose. I felt that this project was very successful. Thanks parents for helping your child shine.

Please be alert as to amount of money your child has in their lunch account. Be sure they have enough lunch money for this week and next week. All left over money in the account will carry over to next year unless asked to be returned.

I am missing a few of the reading books that I have been sending home. I have to return all my books – So if you have any books please send them back ASAP. THANKS!

CRCT testing week - The children were awesome. I think that they actually enjoyed taking the test. You could see their faces light up when they were asked a question that they knew. The scores SHOULD come back sometime in early June. You will receive a phone call when the scores can be picked up.

Happy Spring Time

I hope everyone enjoyed their short spring break. The children have enjoyed sharing and writing about how they spent time with their family and friends. They all seemed to have something wonderful to say.

Mr. Mike Melton, Lizzy’s dad, just completed his 5th Junior Achievement Lesson . The lessons were about families and their wants and needs. Yes, we found out that having a Wii is a want and not a need. He presented each child with a Brand NEW ONE DOLLAR COIN. I tried to explain to them to put it in a safe place. Who knows, it could be worth more in about fifty years. If you see Mr. Mike please thank him for planning these 5 wonderful lessons. You might want to volunteer to do Jr. Achievement next year.

Animal Study: For the next three weeks we will wrap up our study of animals.

April 14-18 = Animal study in class

Oct.20th – Fall festival

We had a wonderful day touring Cagle’s Dairy two weeks ago. The students enjoyed having the not so fragrant cows come right up to them, feeding the calves, going on a hay ride, viewing the cows resting and feeding area, and watching the dairy worker actually milk a cow.

Erika’s mom took 93 pictures of the class enjoying our day. She put all 93 pictures on a CD for us for us to view. I want to thank all the chaperones who went with us that day. I hope all of you enjoyed this trip as much as I did.

Our weather study included the study of:

the  water cycle, lightning, rain, tornados, and other weather terms. We will continue to study weather throughout the year.

As a follow up to our study of producers and consumers we had a special day. Our class produced playdough and then sold the playdough to Mrs. O’Connors class. At that time we performed a skit on how to make playdough and we even wrote a song about making playdough.

Mrs. O’Connor's class made necklaces for us. We were the consumers.
