It's hard to believe that we are nearing the end of the first nine weeks of school! The students are working hard - we have such a wonderful class!! We have been busy in Math learning how to build area models of multiplication problems. I know this seems foreign to most of us, but it does give the students a visual model of what the distributive property looks like. We have spent several days on this and I think that they have finally got it! Next week we will do some division facts and get ready for the post test on Friday the 14th of October. I will send home a study guide for them to use.
We have also been busy writing! We wrote letters to soldiers, a summary of our visit to the fire department, and this week we are completing our final writing assessment for this nine weeks. We have finished our study of weather in science and will post test on Wednesday, October 12th. The study guide for this went home last week. We have started our study of American History this week. We are learning how and when the first people cameto the Americas. In grammar we will begin to study common and proper nouns next week.
We would like to thank all of the parents for helping out with the Fall Festival. I saw many of the kids there and the weather was perfect!
Skills Tutor - This week your child should have brought home a yellow login for skills tutor. They can begin logging to the site on Monday. Skills Tutor is an excellent program for students to reinforce what we are doing in class. Students can login and take tests on all subjects, the computer scores the test and if they have a failing grade, it will not let them go on until they watch a lesson on the skill. It rewards them for doing well by letting them play a game. Please encourage your child to use this great resource!
