Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful and restful winter break! I can’t believe we are already half way through. January will be a busy and quick month. We will be focusing on the American Revolution and Simple Machines most of the month. We will also be reading another Newberry Medal winning novel, Johnny Tremain. Johnny Tremain is a 1943 children's novel by Esther Forbes set in Boston prior to and during the outbreak of the American Revolution. The novel's themes include apprenticeship, courtship, sacrifice, human rights, and the growing tension between Whigs and Tories as conflict nears. Events described in the novel include the Boston Tea Party, the British blockade of the Port of Boston, the midnight ride of Paul Revere, and the Battles of Lexington and Concord.
