My oh my how time flies when you are learning new things and making friends! It has been a great start to school and now we are looking at really getting into depth with things. In Science we are learning about animals, where they live, how they move and how they protect their babies from danger. We will match animal parents with their babies, group animals according to their observable features such as appearance, size, motion and where it lives. An example would be: a frog has four legs and hops. We will explore the similarities and differences in animals.
We will continue to work on letters and their sounds, what they look like and writing them. Remember children often need to use a "pointer finger" to keep their place when reading so encourage your child to point to the words as they read.
In Math we will continue to work on number sense-writing the numerals and understanding quantity. We are working hard on automatically recognizing numbers from 1-5. We continue to work on position words such as: under, over, beside, inside, behind and outside. It would be a good idea to start helping your child recognize pennies, nickels and quarters. The children have to know that 5 pennies is the same as 1 nickel and are beginning to count by 5's to 25.
We will begin working on full names, phone number and address soon as this is assessed on GKIDS, our state wide individual kindergarten assessment. We are learning about the American Flag, the Georgia Flag and other American symbols. Please review what Labor Day is at home as well.
THANK YOU for helping your child grow in so many ways! Have a great September!
