Welcome to May!

It is so hard to believe the end of the school year is quickly approaching!  We have a very busy month ahead and still many things to finish up learning in first grade! 

Animal projects have been sent home.  The projects are due Monday, May 11th.  Each child has brought home their animal of choice.  Have fun creating a project to show off all your child has learned.  We will be setting up a museum in our room on Monday the 11th.

May 6th will be our Boosterathon Fun Run.  By now, I am sure you have heard all the excitment!  Your child brought home a CD and pledge form.  The money we raise for Mtn View will go towards technology and the foundation.  Also, our class will get 10% of what we raise!  Parents are welcome to come out on the 6th and cheer us on!  We will be walking from 9:45-11:00.  Go Fenton's Frolics!  :)

May 7th is our final field trip to the zoo.  All parents are welcome to come!  We will only have room on the bus for a handful of parents, but feel free to carpool and join us!  It is a FUN day!

May 13th will be the K-2 field day.  Be watching your child's FROG book for more information.

May 21st is our end of the year party.  More information will be coming home on that as well. 

May 22nd is the last day of school!  Thank you everyone for a fantastic year!

Welcome Spring!

I can't believe it is April already!  This year is flying by.  I hope everyone has fun plans for spring break and will come back rested and ready to finish the year!

Instead of our monthly homework calendar, I am sending home a packet to help prep for CRCT.  This packet will not be due until April 20th.  Work on a few pages each night.  When we take the CRCT, the children will be required to read the passages independently, however, all questions and answer choices will be read by me.  Help your child after they read, by going back into the text to find their answers and talking out their choices.  Parental help is ok!  Also please continue practicing the online tests.  Even if you have done them all, the more exposure they have to the CRCT test format the better prepped they will be the week of testing.  Fenton, Ms. Gail and myself will be working hard to create a very relaxed and familiar testing environment.  We are working on test prep in class.  Please make sure your child has a good night sleep and a healthy breakfast the week of testing.  Full tummies and rest help our brains work best!

Please note that the school building will be closed to visitors while testing is in progress.  If you need to drop something off, please visit the office and the awesome office staff will make sure things are delivered once testing is completed.  Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

I will be asking parents to provide some light snacks during testing week.  We take a small break in the middle and we will be eating lunch late on those days.  Mrs. Ryley, our room mom will be contacting everyone shortly with a request. 

Again, I hope everyone enjoys their break and I look forward to the exciting events coming as the end of the year comes way too soon!

Hi Parents,

I am going to try out a new system for our weekly agendas and news.  I will be posting and sending home a monthly calendar with important dates, reminders, and events listed.  I will also have our special schedule and groups listed for easy reference. 

Please be sure to check and initial each day on your agenda/calendar.  If your child has a stamp or happy face, then his/her frog did not hop that day.  If a frog is hopped I will include a little note. 

Our monthly homework has really been working out well, so we will give our monthly calendar/agenda a try as well!  Thank you for your support!

Welcome to February!  Thank you to everyone for coming in for conferences.  I enjoyed sharing your child's progress and the children were thrilled to show off all they are learning!  :)

Welcome 2009!

Welcome back to school!  I hope everyone enjoyed a restful and much needed Holiday Break!  I know I sure did!  It was great to just hang out and celebrate with family and friends!  Thank you so much for all of the gifts and treats before the holidays!  Also, thank you for my wonderful birthday lunch!  :)

This month we are starting the 3rd nine weeks... we will be working on skills in all areas as well as starting our CRCT prep.  Be sure to be practicing online for the CRCT test.  We are still squadded for our specials each day... Please check your child's agenda as to what specials they have... when in doubt send in tennis shoes and socks in their bookbags for PE...

I am changing our homework this month, yet again!  :)  I am keeping the month long assignments however, I am going to make our assignments due on Mondays to allow for weekend work time!  This week's agenda states 5 things are due on Friday, however, if you wish, you and your child can work throughout the w/e and have it in on Monday!   I may be periodically supplementing with some reading activities as well...  Those activities can count for your homework for the week! 

Please remember that conferences are the week of 1/26.  I am looking forward to sharing all of the great things your children are doing and where they are 1/2 way through the year!  We have been busy learning and growing and we are all proud of our accomplishments!  Please send those forms back ASAP so I can make adjustments.  Please remember, if you have siblings, the teachers have worked together to position conferences back to back for your convenience. 

Our 100 days of school is fast approaching.  Be watching your child's FROG book for more details coming soon about our big day!  Wow... 100 days already?!

December News!

I hope that everyone has had a fantastic Thanksgiving and enjoyed a week of fun, food, and relaxing!  We are on the race to the end of the year and semester!  It is so hard to believe that we are just about 1/2 through the year!  Holy Cow!  This month will be full of fun events, great learning experiences, and growing as first graders! 

Please remember as the weather is getting colder, make sure you child has a jacket, mittens, and hat!  As first graders busy working, we need some time to RUN outside.  Even if we go out for 10 minutes, we will on nice days.  Girls, be sure to wear leggings or stockings with your cute dresses and skirts!  Legs get COLD outside if even for a few minutes!

For the month of December we will continue with our month homework plan.  Each week, have your child chose 5 things (one needs to be a writing activity).  Be sure to follow the underlined hyper links for some great websites to enhance what we are doing in the classroom.  All of the activities listed are practice and some challenge activities based on our standards in all subject areas.  These activities should take no more than 10 mins per night to finish along with 20 minutes of reading.  Please return the homework sheet on Fridays with your signature (Initials) on the activities you have completed.  We will be sharing our writing in class.

Parent Survey for Standards-Based Report Cards

encourages parents to participate in the online fall survey for the new standards-based report cards.  As part of the ongoing development process, a survey link has been posted to the Cobb District website to gather input on the recently distributed K, 1, and 2 report cards.  Please visit www.cobbk12.org to respond.  The survey will be open until Dec. 1, 2008. 

Welcome November!

November is here and we have a busy month ahead.  I am going to be changing how we do homework this month.  I will post the homework to the blog as well as in the frog books.  I have split the homework into the subject areas we are working on currently.  This homework will go for the entire month of November.  There are a variety of activities for your child to chose from.  Parents, inital next to each one you complete.  I will check homework on Fridays.  I ask that each child does a minimum of 5 activities a week plus their reading log.  Have fun!  I will also periodically send a book home as well.  Have your child read the story, retell it, and add it to the reading log!

Things we are working on:

Language Arts/Reading:  retelling, compound words, contractions, word endings (ing, s, es, ed), initial blends (st, cr, tr, etc), digraphs (th, ch, sh, wh), complete sentences, writing process, punctuation to name just a few!

Math:  2-D and 3-D shapes (identifying and characteristics), money - making fair trades with coins;making fair trades with bills, math facts!
