February Book Report
The February book report is a "Character Walk". Students will read a new book on their reading level and dress up as a character from the book. The student will need to give an oral presentation about his/her character. Please refer to directions being sent home and have students practice their presentations! The Character Walk will be March 8th.
Arts Night Out/Spaghetti Night
PTA is sponsoring an Arts Night Out on Friday, February 11th at 6:30 pm. Teachers will also be hosting a spaghetti dinner serving spaghetti, salad, and desserts. Funds from this event will go toward Relay for Life and the gym floor.
Writing Contest
Directionsand entry forms for the Heroes Writing Contest have been sent home. Entries should be submitted by February 11th. (This is a voluntary activity).
Six Flags Reading Program
The Six Flags Reading program will end on February 28th. All recording sheets are due on the 28th. Please make sure the recording sheets have been signed by a parent.
Star Lab
Second grade students will have an in-house field trip experience on either February 15th or 18th (our class is scheduled for the 15th). The Elachee Nature Center will present a program called Star Lab: Seeing Stars, a Planetarium Program. Students will have an opportunity to observe seasonal changes in the night sky, identify constellations, and compare attribtes of stars in a portable planetarium. Instruction will be provided by an astronomer from the Elachee Nature Center. Please return permission slips by Monday, February 7th.
Jump Rope For Heart
Jump Rope for Heart is Wednesday, February 9th. Parents are welcome to join their children in the gym during specials. Our class will participate from 11:15 am- 11:55 am.
Valentine's Exchange
Our class will have a Valentine Exchange at the end of the day on Monday, February 14th. Students will be given a current class list to help them in preparing Valentines. This is a great opportunity for students to practice handwriting skills as they sign and address Valentines.
Scholastic Book Orders
Students will recieve a February Scholastic book orderr at the beginning of the month. Orders are due in the classroom or online on Friday, February 11th.
Looking Ahead
Mark your calendars for Friday, March 4th! Second grade students will be performing a program called "Friends" in the cafeteria at 8:30.
