It's hard to believe that we only have 3 weeks before the end of the 2nd nine weeks of school, and our winter break! All assessments will be completed before the break, so we will be very busy in December!
The Book Talk Book Reports were awesome and I can tell that the students practiced at home! Instead of a book report this month, students will write a report on a family tradition. The report is due, Tuesday, December 20th. Information was sent home with specific details, and I have attached a copy.
Here are some of the Standards we will learn in December:
Reading: Continue with reading strategies to demonstrate comprehension: making connections, predictions, inferring, summarizing, and asking questions, book in the bag, Readers' Theatre, synonyms, antonyms, homophones, homographs, dictionary skills, pronouns, adjectives, syllables, plurals, dipthongs, contractions, r-controlled vowels, and possessives.
Math- We will continue making change up to $20.00, and telling time to the nearest 5 minutes. Please help your child practice these skills at home. We will begin our unit on geometry with the study of plane shapes, angles and vertices. We will also review addition & subtraction with regrouping and checking subtraction with addition. We will also continue to organize & interpret data using Venn Diagrams, charts & tables. Please remember to use IXL and My Skills Tutor at home. These are great websites that review and enrich math and language arts skills.
Science- Energy- Light, Heat, & Motion
Social Studies- Students will identify ways that goods & services are allocated.
Language Arts- Students will write a response to literature. They will read or listen to a book and then write a summary, a connection to the book, and a feeling about the book.
