The Story Map book reports were awesome! They were very creative and I could tell that the students practiced at home! Students must read and follow the directions on the monthly book reports because they change every month. Thanks to all the moms who are helping us during center time. We appreciate your help!
The students had a great time decorating our door during Red Ribbon Week-Be Smart Don't Take Drugs!
Please remember that parents must send in a written note or a fax to the front office if your child is going home differently. Please do not send me an e-mail because I do not check e-mails until 4:00pm on most days.
I have sent home a list of great math websites that students can use to practice their math skills. I have also sent home information for using MY Skills Tutor and IXL websites. Students need their username & password for these two great sites. We will use these sites in class and for November homework. I have shown all the students how to log into these sites.
Please remember that students must complete 5 online homework assignments each week( 1 from each content area) as well as read for 20mins every night and fill out their reading log. Most of the students are doing an excellent job on their homework and reading log! Reading is FUNdamental!
Here are some of the Georgia Standards that we will be studying in November:
Reading- Book In The Bag will continue and new books are given every Thursday. We will practice strategies to help students better understand a story; making connections, visualizing, questioning, inferring, determing important ideas/events, summarizing, and synthesizing.
Math- We will learn with subtraction with regrouping. Ask your child to tell you the math rap and to explain it to you. Please practice at home counting money and counting back change to $5.00, and telling time to the nearest 5 minutes. We have been doing some great math lessons on the Smart Board, so please ask your child what centers they have been going to during math time.
Language Arts- We are writing a response to literature. Students have been writing letters to an author and to me about a book that I read in class. Students are including a summary of the story, their feelings about the book, a connection and they are asking questions. Students are encouraged to use a dictionary to check their spelling and to use capital letters and correct punctuation marks. We are also studying homophones, homographs, plurals, suffixes, and contractions.
Social Studies- We are learing about James Oglethorpe, Tomochichi and Mary Musgrove, some of Georgia's heroes. Please ask your child to tell you about these people.
