Wecome to 2nd grade! It's August and it's very hot, but the students have been very busy in school and getting use to our procedures and routines. I enjoyed meeting all the families on Curriculum Night. Please refer to the Power Point presentation on my blog during the year and e-mail me with any questions or concerns. Your children are precious and I am enjoying getting to know all of them!
Bus Passes- These are to be filled out and sent back to school every time your child is riding a different bus home with a friend, or your child is riding the same bus but getting off on a different bus stop. These must be given to the bus driver on those days.
Spirit wear- PTA is asking all students to try to wear a School Spirit shirt on Fridays if they have one.
SURF- students may still return the SURF summer reading sheets to me. If you can not find the sheet, students can write the names of the 5 or more books they read this summer and return it to me. 2nd grade teachers will provide a treat for all SURF readers!
Please send me a note in your child's red folder if they are going home differently that day.
2nd grade is going GREEN with homework this year! Our online homework will begin August 29th. Please be patient as we work out any problems that may occur. Please send me an e-mail or see me if you are having difficulty getting the homework. Students should complete 5 activities each week; one from each subject.Some activities are written, some are to be done orally & some are games Please initial the assignments your child does each night. The homework folder & writing is due each Friday.
Here are some of the Georgia Standards that we will study in August:
Reading- Strategies that good readers use
Spelling- short vowel sounds
Language Arts- review nouns, verbs, compound words, and review the writing process, discuss strategies that good writiers use, and write a narrative.
Math- place value, number sense, math facts, problem solving, graphs
Social Studies- cardinal and intermediate directions, locating Georgia on a map
Health- eating a healthy snack

August 15th- First day of school
August 18th- Curriculum Night- 6:00- 8:00
August 29th- online homework begins
