February will be a very short month for us but it will be very busy! The January book reports were wonderful! Students made dioramas, created puppet shows, wrote letters and advertisements! I can tell that they enjoyed reading their books and they had fun doing this project!
The students learned a lot about staying safe from the fire fighters at the Safety Village! The students had hands on practice with safety skills at this beautiful facility! Please ask your child what he/she learned.
Here are some of the Georgia Standards that we will learn this month:
Math- fractions, 3-digit addition and 3-digit subtraction with regrouping- this is a very difficult skill and review at home would be very helpful.
Reading- reading nonfiction books, research information about animals, learn the purpose and characteristics of nonfiction books and writing, Book In The Bag continues, Due to February break we will combine February & March book reports- students will read a book and dress up as a character from their book. We will have a Charcter Book Walk on March 8th, more information will be sent home.
Language Arts- writing a nonfiction animal report, using capital letters & correct punctuation marks identifying subject and predicate parts of a sentence, dictionary skills, using a glossary & index
Science- stars, phases of the moon, night & day, seasons, shadows
Health-- taking care of your teeth

February 2nd- full day of school for students
February 9th- Jr. Achievement lesson with Mrs. Preston
February 11th- Arts Night Out & Spaghetti Dinner- Please come for a fun night and money collected goes to Relay For Life and to buy a new gym floor!
February 14th- Valentine's Day- Students may bring in valentines, cards, or candy for the class. I will send home a class list. We will have a card exchange but we will not have a party.
February 15th- Star Lab for our class- in school field trip where students will learn about stars/constellations
February 16th- Jr. Achievement lesson with Mrs. Preston
February 21st-25th-February break- no school
