It's hard to believe that it's January already and our school year seems to be going by very quickly! I hope that everyone had a great winter break. We are finished assessments and the 3rd nine weeks have begun. Report cards will be sent home on Friday, January 13th.
Our class will be on the Morning News the week of Jan 16th. We will present the word for the week, self-confidence/empowerment. All students have the opportunity to go on the morning news, but some may choose not to do this activity.
Our book report this month is Readers' Choice. Students may write an advertisement for a book, design a diorama, write a letter to an author , or create a puppet show. More information will be sent home about this book report. It will be due the last week in January, so students should start looking for a great book on their reading level.
Here are some of the Georgia Standards we will learn this month:
Math- identify, describe, & classify solid shapes, according to their attributes, edges, angles, faces and vertices. Review making change to $5.00 and subtraction with regrouping.
Reading- We will continue to use strategies to gain meaning from text: making connections, predictions, generating questions, inferring, summarizing. Book in the Bag continues, discuss differences between fiction and non-fiction books, and we will read informational books. January's book report will be Readers' Choice.
Language Arts- We will write informational paragraphs this nine weeks. Students will use resources, such as, a dictionary, a thesaurus, non-fiction books, internet sites, encyclopedia, and charts to support their writing.
Social Studies- The contributions of Jackie Robinson and Martin Luther King
